Dublin-based garda detective Robert Hennessy, who assaulted social care worker Michael Finnegan in a bar, avoids jail and criminal record. Hennessy was found guilty of unprovoked assault but received a conditional discharge with conditions including €5,000 payment to Finnegan, no reoffending, and no contact with the victim. He must also attend appointments with the Probation Service and attend courses deemed appropriate for assault convicts.
