A "derecho" - a widespread, long-lived windstorm associated with rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms - has caused widespread damage across the Midwest, including Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. These powerful storms, which can produce hurricane-force winds and tornadoes, left more than 350,000 customers without power, uprooted trees, shattered windows, and caused one fatality in Indiana. The National Weather Service issued 16 tornado warnings during the storm, which has been linked to wind gusts reaching up to 105 mph.
