Self-exiled Chinese businessman Guo Wengui, known for his criticism of the Chinese Communist Party, has been found guilty of defrauding his online followers of over $1bn. The New York federal court verdict came after Guo was accused of using his online fame to attract investors into his companies and projects, which he then used to maintain a lavish lifestyle. Guo was arrested in March 2023 in Manhattan and charged with wire fraud and money laundering.
