Since Sir Keir Starmer became Prime Minister on July 5, over 1,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel, with 1,185 migrants reaching the UK, and 14,759 crossing this year, a 12% increase from 2023. The Home Office is working on a new Border Security Command to tackle people smuggling gangs responsible for the crossings and is collaborating with French and international partners to address the issue.
