Karnataka cabinet decides to implement 7th Pay Commission's recommendations, effective August 1. The decision comes under pressure after the Karnataka State Government Employees Association threatened to go on an indefinite strike. The 7th Pay Commission, headed by former chief secretary K Sudhakar Rao, recommends a 27.5% increase in basic salary for state government employees, costing the government exchequer an additional Rs 17,440 crore annually.
