President Cyril Ramaphosa's opening of parliament on 18 July 2024 will mark the start of the new five-year parliamentary cycle. Analyst Sipho Seepe, however, warns South Africans not to expect much from Ramaphosa's speech, stating that political speeches under the ANC government have lost meaning over the years. The opening of parliament will be attended by members of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces and will coincide with the United Nations-declared Nelson Mandela International Day.
