Telehealth nurse breached Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights, leading to woman's death due to inadequate secondary triage.
Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner Rose Wall found a telehealth service's registered nurse breached the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights. A woman in her 70s, experiencing vomiting symptoms and abdominal pain, was advised to see her GP the next morning, but later died from sepsis and bowel obstruction. The nurse failed to consider the woman's age and the length of her illness, leading to inadequate secondary triage.
