Save Stonehenge World Heritage Site campaigners appeal Court of Appeal against July 2023 approval of a two-mile tunnel near Stonehenge for A303 road upgrade.
Campaigners from Save Stonehenge World Heritage Site (SSWHS) have brought an appeal to the Court of Appeal, challenging the decision to approve a two-mile tunnel near Stonehenge as part of an eight-mile upgrade to the A303 road. SSWHS argue that the approval by Huw Merriman, then Minister of State for Rail and HS2, in July 2023 breached a duty to act fairly. They claim Merriman did not consider the risk of Stonehenge being delisted as a World Heritage Site or take into account the Carbon Budget Delivery Plan and the Net Zero Growth Plan.
