2024 Q1 gas demand in Ireland decreased 3% YoY, with gas contributing 43% to electricity generation, surpassing wind at 36%.

In the first half of 2024, overall gas demand decreased by 3% compared to the same period in 2023, according to Gas Networks Ireland's June gas demand report. The report also revealed that gas was the largest contributor to electricity generation, generating 43% in the same period, in comparison to 36% generated by wind. Gas demand reduced by 17% month-on-month and 8% year-on-year in June, contributing to 47% of the country's electricity generation.
