Massachusetts has secured $1bn in federal funding, raising the total federal funding for replacing two aging and structurally deficient bridges connecting Cape Cod to $1.72bn. The state has also pledged $700m in state funding, with the full cost of replacing both bridges estimated at $4.5bn. The project is expected to create 9,000 construction jobs and will replace the Sagamore Bridge before the Bourne Bridge. After completion, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation will own, maintain, and operate the new bridges.
