Chinese researchers developed a biodegradable, sesame seed-sized, wireless brain sensor for monitoring brain conditions in patients with head injuries or tumors. The sensor, made from hydrogel, can be injected under the skull and operated via an external ultrasound probe, reducing the need for invasive surgeries and infection risk. Tested on rats and pigs, it measured intracranial pressure and temperature as effectively as or better than conventional wired sensors. The team's research is published in Nature.
