SGPGI doctors in Lucknow performed the world's first robotic surgery to treat a rare case of pelvic lipomatosis in a 24-year-old patient. The procedure, augmentation cystoplasty with bilateral ureteric reimplantation, involved enlarging the bladder using a section of the patient's intestine and repositioning the ureters for proper drainage and function. The surgery, which lasted over seven hours, marks the first time this complex procedure has been performed with a surgical robot, according to an official statement.
