Conservation-minded Kenyans are combating the threat of mangrove logging by hiding beehives among the trees near the Indian Ocean coastline. Peter Nyongesa, 69, has turned to using bee-filled hives to deter loggers from chopping down the trees for firewood or home construction as part of a local conservation initiative. Mangroves, which thrive in salty water, help prevent erosion and provide habitats for marine life.
