Fine Gael TD Colm Burke was refused communion at a funeral mass in Co Cork due to his support for repealing the Eighth Amendment, which led to the legalisation of abortion in Ireland. The priest, Fr Gabriel Burke of Blarney parish, informed Burke he had been "excommunicated". Burke has contacted the Cloyne diocese for clarification on the matter and is writing a letter to the bishop.
