The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirms the presence of the MSX parasite in wild oysters of Bedeque Bay, Prince Edward Island. MSX, caused by Haplosporidium nelsoni, hinders oyster growth and increases mortality rates but poses no risk to human health or food safety. The CFIA, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Province of PEI are working together with stakeholders and partners to monitor the situation and implement preventive measures.
