25-year-old World War II pilot John E. McLauchlen Jr., missing for 80 years, has been given full honors and laid to rest in Kansas after being officially accounted for. He was killed during a bombing mission in 1943 in southeast Asia, and his B-24J Liberator bomber plane was struck by anti-aircraft fire, causing a wing to burst into flames. McLauchlen was buried at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and honored with a B-1 bomber flyover.
