64-year-old Gary Smith, "Gary the Happy Pirate" and founder of the Pirate Toy Fund, passed away.
Gary Smith, known as "Gary the Happy Pirate", has died at age 64. Smith was a children's entertainer and founder of the Pirate Toy Fund, which has donated over 500,000 toys to children in need across the Rochester area since 1995. Smith was also a part of the duo "Doug and Gary" and retired from his role as executive director of the charity in 2020 after being diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy.
