Essar Energy Transition launches Europe's first hydrogen-ready CHP plant at Stanlow refinery, targeting CO2 emission reduction by 740,000 tonnes annually.
Essar Energy Transition (EET) has launched Europe's first hydrogen-ready combined heat and power (CHP) plant, EET Hydrogen Power, at its Stanlow refinery in the UK. The $3bn investment aims to complete construction by 2027, supporting EET Fuels' goal to become the lowest carbon process refinery globally and EET Hydrogen's ambition to become the UK's leading low carbon hydrogen producer. The new plant will replace existing boiler units, generating 125MW of power and 6,000 tonnes of steam per day, while reducing CO2 emissions by 740,000 tonnes per annum. The project aligns with EET's overall energy transition initiatives in the North West of England and will serve as a blueprint for future industrial decarbonization efforts.
