5 people involved in the assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio have been sentenced to 12-34 years in prison. Two instigators received 34 years and 8 months each, while three accomplices were sentenced to 12 years. The killers shot Villavicencio, a former investigative journalist, on August 9, 2023, during a campaign rally in Quito. Thirteen people were injured in the attack.
