Study finds galaxies' supermassive black hole "heart" and gas jets "lungs" regulate growth, preventing overgrowth and prolonging galaxy life.

New study reveals galaxies' "heart and lungs" prevent overgrowth, prolonging their life. Researchers at the University of Kent propose that galaxies control their growth rate through "breathing", with a supermassive black hole at the core compared to a heart and jets of gas to lungs. This regulation prevents galaxies from growing out of control, preventing a faster aging universe with "zombie" galaxies of dead and dying stars.
