First Nations along British Columbia's coast and the Canadian government announced the designation of Canada's largest marine protected area, located 150 kilometers off the west coast of Vancouver Island. Spanning over 133,000 square kilometers, it encompasses unique seafloor features such as 47 underwater mountains and Canada's confirmed hydrothermal vents, which support rare and culturally important deep-water species.
