Sokoto State Governor signs law removing Sultan's power to appoint district and village heads.

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has signed the Sokoto Local Government and Chieftaincy Law, which strips Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar of the power to appoint district and village heads in the state. The governor explained that the amendments were aimed at removing ambiguities and inconsistencies with the nation's Constitution, and not targeted at any individual or group, but to promote good governance.
