New research at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Annual Meeting shows that short or long sleep duration in recently diagnosed diabetes patients is linked to microvascular disease (small blood vessel damage). This increases the risk of complications associated with type 2 diabetes, such as retinopathy and nephropathy. The study highlights the possible influence of sleep duration variations on diabetes-related complications.
