A pilot was killed when a single-engine firefighting aircraft crashed into a Montana reservoir during a mission to collect water and combat a nearby blaze. The crash took place on Hauser Reservoir on the Missouri River northeast of Helena in Lewis and Clark County. The pilot, a 45-year-old woman, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the U.S. Forest Service.
