Japan's PM Fumio Kishida has pledged to discipline military personnel for mishandling classified information in a scandal threatening Tokyo's efforts to convince the US and other allies it can be trusted. The Defense Ministry has disciplined 218 Self-Defense Forces (SDF) members and senior bureaucrats, with 11 dismissals, two demotions, and 83 suspensions. The head of the Maritime Self Defense Force, Admiral Ryo Sakai, will resign to take responsibility for some incidents.
