55-year-old climber Chris Zwierzynski from Arizona was rescued after surviving a 700-foot fall on Mount Hood's steep, icy Old Chute route. The fall occurred at around 11,200 feet, and Zwierzynski sustained multiple injuries, fortunately, none of them were life-threatening. Off-duty military medics and National Forest climbing rangers assisted in his rescue, while a National Guard helicopter airlifted him to a Portland hospital for treatment.
