South Korea's population aged 65 and over has reached 10 million, accounting for 19.5% of the total population, as reported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The country is approaching a "super-aged" society, which refers to a country with more than 20% of its population aged 65 or higher. The number of residents aged 65 or older increased from 11.79% in January 2013 to 17.45% in April 2022.
