16 Nigerian states have accessed the 2023 matching grant provided by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), representing 41% of the N51.6bn ($118.3m) appropriated. The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, highlighted the need to amend the UBEC Act, which has been in place for nearly 20 years, to address challenges in basic education, including inadequate qualified teachers and unaccessed funds.
