Michigan saw a 2% decline in total road accidents and deaths in 2023, with 1,095 road deaths reported, compared to 1,123 fatalities in 2022. Total traffic collisions also saw a 2% decrease, from 293,341 to 287,953. Despite this, crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists increased by over 10%: pedestrian-involved crashes rose by 11% (from 1,897 to 2,114 incidents), pedestrian deaths increased by 6% (from 173 to 183 fatalities), and bicycle-involved crashes increased by 10% (from 1,340 to 1,480 incidents).
