Bipartisan Senate group proposes ban on congressional stock trading; members of Congress, spouses, and dependent children would face penalties for trading stocks, as well as restrictions on lawmakers’ investments by 2027. Legislation, introduced by Sens. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo. ), would prohibit trading stocks and certain other investments, and impose similar restrictions on lawmakers’ spouses and dependent children. Members of Congress would face fines for violation of new rules.
