6-year-olds involved in disorder in Derry; police attacked with petrol bombs after discovering suspicious device.

Police say children as young as six were involved in disorder in Derry, as officers were attacked with petrol bombs. The unrest erupted after police discovered a suspicious device in the Creggan area on 9th July, following an initial sudden death investigation in Magowan Park. The disorder, condemned as "clearly unacceptable", saw masonry, paint, and fireworks also thrown at police. No injuries were reported to officers, but a security alert in the area was later found to be an elaborate hoax.
