South Dakota residents face an earwig population surge due to wet weather. Earwigs (Forficula auricularia) thrive in moist, dark areas and can be found in gardens, houseplants, and bathrooms. To reduce infestations, the South Dakota State University Extension recommends: 1) eliminating moisture; 2) sealing entry points; 3) removing harborage; 4) using traps; 5) maintaining gardens; and 6) using insecticides.
