Rochester's Charles Carroll Plaza was renamed Austin Steward Plaza, honoring the abolitionist who escaped slavery and became the city's first prominent Black business owner. The $12 million revamp of the riverside park involved upgrades to the Genesee Riverway Trail. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans and New York Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado attended the renaming ceremony to preserve Rochester's legacy of freedom.
