A railway union strike in Sri Lanka left tens of thousands of commuters stranded due to the halt of most trains across the country on Wednesday. The Station Masters' Union launched the strike to demand the filling of vacancies and resolution of other administrative issues. With hundreds of scheduled train journeys cancelled, only a few overcrowded trains were in operation, forcing passengers to risk their lives to get to school and work.
