Judge Arthur Wetzel ordered a competency evaluation for James D. Thompson Jr., accused of murdering a 72-year-old man at a Hall County rest area on I-80. Thompson allegedly attacked a Missouri couple during a Jeep theft attempt, fatally stabbing Gary Weaver, 72, and injuring Mary Weaver, 71. The evaluation will be conducted by a doctor from the Lincoln Regional Center, and the next court date is scheduled for Aug. 6.
