Ghana's CSIR-Crops Research Institute has begun pioneering trials under the ACE4ES project to reduce methane emissions from rice production, funded by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition and UN Environment Program. Innovative methane reduction technologies like alternate wetting/drying systems and biochar application are being integrated to improve agriculture and inform national policies, starting with Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, and Tanzania.
