SAFE opposes two proposed intensive chicken farms in Waikato due to avian flu risks and animal welfare concerns.

SAFE (Save Animals from Exploitation) urges the government to intercept two intensive chicken farms proposed for Waikato, as Australian company Agright plans to build this summer. Each farm, with 6 'free-range' sheds, would host 480,000 birds, increasing risks of avian influenza. SAFE CEO Debra Ashton states confined chickens suffer from lameness, joint collapse, respiratory issues, and heart problems.
