1811 Louisiana slave revolt site, Woodland Plantation House, acquired by Black-owned group for restoration.
Louisiana's Woodland Plantation House, site of the 1811 slave revolt, has been acquired by a Black-owned group, marking its first time in Black ownership since the 1800s. The group, which aims to eradicate the legacies of slavery, plans to restore the historic plantation. Built in 1793, it is known as the German Coast Uprising site due to the region's German immigrant settlement.
