16 people died in 15 crashes during the July 4th holiday weekend in Ohio, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP). Of those fatalities, nine involved vehicles with available safety belts, but seven people were unbelted. OSHP reported 438 arrests for impaired driving and 72 drug-related charges during the reporting period. Troopers made 34,209 traffic contacts in total and issued nearly 3,000 safety belt and child safety seat citations. Distracted driving was a factor in 1,368 citations.
