EFCC opposes Emefiele's passport release for UK medical trip amidst corruption charges.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) opposes former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele's request to release his international passport for a medical trip to the United Kingdom. Emefiele, who currently faces corruption charges in separate trials in Abuja and Lagos, has denied all charges against him. The EFCC argues that there is no medical report to support the claim that Emefiele's ailment cannot be treated in Nigeria and questions if Emefiele's ailment can indeed be treated in Nigeria. The EFCC also mentions that Emefiele might be tempted to jump bail since he has co-conspirators in the UK, and that he is facing multiple charges in three different courts. The presiding judge, Hamza Mua'zu, has adjourned the ruling on the application to July 16.
