78% decrease in DC carjackings since June 2023 due to arrests, convictions, and a carjacking task force, with most arrested being juveniles.
DC carjackings down 78% since June 2023, with 31 incidents compared to 140 in the same month last year. US Attorney Matthew Graves attributes the decrease to arrests and convictions, as well as a new MPD carjacking task force formed in 2021. Graves notes that a supermajority of individuals arrested for carjacking are juveniles, and pledges to continue charging 16- and 17-year-olds as adults.
