4 American red wolf pups were born at Saint Louis Zoo's Sears Lehmann Jr. Wildlife Reserve in Franklin County, the first-ever breeding season there. With only around 20 red wolves remaining in the wild, the zoo aims to help prevent extinction by providing a safe habitat and eventually reintroducing them to the wild. The reserve opened in 2022 to protect critically endangered American species.
