Wire rope barriers installed on Mitchell Highway to reduce crashes between Orange and Bathurst.

Wire rope barriers have been installed on the Mitchell Highway between Orange and Bathurst to reduce dozens of potential crashes, according to roads authorities. The flexible wire rope acts as a physical barrier between traffic on either side of the road, particularly at known crash hot spots. The $95.9 million safety upgrades also feature rumble strips to alert drivers and widened roads, with work on the project starting in 2018 and scheduled for completion in 2024.
