The UN aims to halve global road fatalities by 2030, launching a celebrity-backed awareness campaign, #MakeASafetyStatement, to start in New York in 2025, reaching over 1000 cities in more than 80 countries. Despite the absence of the UN's campaign in Australia, local governments are working to address a spike in the country's road toll, with 1303 deaths between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024, a 123-death increase from the same period last year. The Federal Government has issued an ultimatum to Australia's states and territories, requiring them to share road safety data or risk funding being withheld.
