Dwarf planet Ceres is visible in binoculars in Sagittarius this summer, easily located at the bottom of the Sagittarius "Teapot." Best viewed at 11 p.m. local time, Ceres is as close to Earth as it will be for the year, at a distance of 176 million miles (283 million km). The small size of Ceres makes it appear as a small star while it slowly moves westward across the bottom of the Teapot.
