60s ex-NSW prison guard Wayne Gregory Astill's appeal against his convictions for raping and assaulting nine female inmates was rejected, upholding his sentences.

Former NSW prison guard Wayne Gregory Astill, 60s, had his appeal rejected by the Supreme Court, upholding his conviction for raping and indecently assaulting nine female inmates at Dillwynia Correctional Centre. The court dismissed Astill's arguments that a jury instruction and the severity of his sentences constituted a miscarriage of justice. The appeal panel ruled that his maximum 23-year sentence and minimum 15-year-and-four-month term were appropriate, despite Astill's claims they were excessive.
