Oldham's Coliseum theatre, closed in 2023 after 135 years, will reopen in 2025 after a £10m refurbishment, led by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh. The historic venue was forced to close due to Arts Council England withdrawing funding and Oldham Council deeming it "no longer fit for purpose". Instead of replacing it with a new £24m theatre, Oldham Borough Council has decided to refurbish the existing building.
