Two pistols previously owned by Napoleon Bonaparte, which he intended for suicide, were sold for €1.69 million ($1.8 million) at an auction in Fontaineau, south of Paris. The French government has classified these pistols as national treasures, thus banning their export. The buyer's identity was not disclosed, but the French government can make a purchase offer within a 30-month period; the owner has the right to refuse.
