Federal court in Texas partially blocks FTC's non-compete agreement ban, pending further ruling.
The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) rule banning most non-compete agreements has been partially blocked by a federal court in Texas. The ruling temporarily stops the FTC from enforcing its rule, which was due to take effect on September 4th. The plaintiffs, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and tax preparation company Ryan LLC, argued that the FTC lacks the authority to enforce rules that define unfair methods of competition. The judge's ruling is not a full block of the rule nationwide but will need a further ruling before the September 4th date for it to be official.
