Fatal house fire in Manapouri caused by heater contact with bedding, no smoke alarms.

A fire investigation has determined that a fatal house fire in Manapouri, Southland was caused by a heater coming into contact with flammable material, likely bedding. The house had no working smoke alarms at the time of the fire. Fire and Emergency New Zealand is reminding the public to be fire safe this winter, checking smoke alarms and creating a three-step escape plan.
